Searching a medicine name is understandable. It is also easy to mix up the active ingredient, the brand and the indication approved in a particular country. A search result is not a prescription.

Check the exact product and local indication

Semaglutide and tirzepatide are different medicines. Ozempic and Wegovy are semaglutide brands with product-specific indications; brand names should not be treated as interchangeable. Mounjaro contains tirzepatide. Lilly's Indian launch information describes Mounjaro for type 2 diabetes and chronic weight management in eligible adults. The Indian Wegovy prescribing information describes chronic weight-management use in eligible adults. A clinician should check the current Indian label for the exact product before prescribing. US labels do not automatically establish Indian approval.

The cited Indian weight-management information uses BMI of at least 30, or at least 27 with a weight-related condition. These are product-label criteria, not an automatic prescription and not a definition of who deserves obesity care.

What should the consultation address?

Bring your medical history, current medicines and existing reports. Ask about suitability, expected benefits and uncertainty, common adverse effects, reasons to seek help, nutrition, activity and follow-up. The answer should be personalised. Do not combine, change or stop treatments based on social-media advice.

Trial numbers are not your promised result

SURMOUNT-1 studied 2,539 adults without diabetes for 72 weeks. Average weight reductions ranged from 15.0% to 20.9% across studied tirzepatide doses, versus 3.1% with placebo. Participants had trial eligibility criteria and structured support; gastrointestinal adverse effects were common. These are study averages, not forecasts for an individual or a comparison with another medicine from a different trial.

Make the care plan clear

Ask who you contact between reviews, what progress is tracked, and how tolerability affects the plan. Discuss longer-term care rather than assuming treatment is a short course followed by permanent weight loss.
